What is a Valuable Employee?

It doesn't make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.''... Steve Jobs

How often do I forget this thought? What would my organization perform like if I hired people smarter than I am?

I've forgotten this thought/belief many times because of FEAR! I've been afraid I wouldn't know what to do with them and they would find that I'm an impostor and not as talented as they first thought and if this happened, they would tell everybody and then leave.

I've been successful when I was very intentional about Who I Wanted, The Values I Wanted, and followed Patrick Lencioni's formula of Hungry, Humble and Smart (about People).

When I followed this advice, my job was to give clear Vision, Expectations, Listen, Reward, Coach and get out of the way!

What about you?

What is your hiring formula?

What fears do you have?

What interview preparations do you make?

How intentional are you about attracting, interviewing and onboarding "A" Players?

Be very intentional and enjoy the rewards!
